Country 11/196: Russia. The first stop on our Silk Road adventure was one that proved to be full of surprises. With the dire press it receives through Western media outlets, I didn’t have sky-high hopes for our month in Russia before our arrival in a very crisp Vladivostok. Indeed, acquiring the visa proved more difficult than any other nation I have applied for to date. However, with mountains akin to the Canadian Rockies, and countless landscapes that would befit any national park, we quickly learned not to judge a book by its cover – or its government.
