Country 23/196: Romania. Although known for their vampires and eerie castles, we soon discovered that Romania’s nightlife is also notorious – as we stumbled from casino to casino in the historic capital. From Bucharest, the route to find Dracula takes in one of the “greatest roads in the world” (if Jeremy Clarkson is to be believed) as well some blood-curdlingly tall dams and monstrously steep mountain passes. Only after navigating them do you discover the truth about the real-life Dracula, Vlad the Impaler, and from where his gory name originated. A very surprising, underrated corner of Europe.
