Country 88/196: Poland. Few European countries have experienced such rapid transformation in the past two decades as Poland, with its cities expanding and its economy becoming a model for the continent. The most visible signs of this change are in Warsaw, where the skyline continues to rise higher and higher. Despite this growth, the city has managed to preserve the charm of its Old Town, the lush green spaces, and the safety of its streets—all while offering the best pierogi around (though the prices have caught up). Łódź, on the other hand, is more understated but no less interesting, with its thriving arts scene and quirky spots like Pasaz Rozy and the Gutenberg Tenement House. Don’t miss the Brick Coffee Factory off Piotrkowska Street for the best brew in the city.
