Country 100/196: Malta. Rammed with historical sieges, sun-bleached architecture, and strip clubs, Malta has a little something for everyone. Baroque cathedrals and cheap beer, Cisk Lager comes highly recommended, are the order of the day in rural townships, whilst Valletta delivers grandeur and astronomical prices. Gozo provides a calm space away from the chaos of the capital and is best seen by buggy: Gozo Quad Hire is a solid choice. Beaches are aplenty, but be selective for the risk of rough terrain or paying ‘resort fees’. Avoid St. Julian’s unless you enjoy chaotic crowds and chlamydia.
