Country 78/196: Egypt. Culture and chaos in equal measure would sum up the capital as wandering its dusty and smoggy streets is both enchanting and maddening. Hawkers galore spot unwitting tourists at a hundred paces and use their well-practised skills to extract as much Egyptian pound as is humanly possible. Entering a Great Pyramid is about as unique an experience as one could imagine while wandering the archaeological sites at Luxor, Karnak, and the Valley of the Kings are worth braving the extreme Saharan heat for. If superstitious, avoid Tutankhamun’s tomb as well as crossing any street in central Cairo as they’re both unlucky and there’s a good chance at least one will kill you.
