Country 61/196: Croatia. For a country with over a thousand paradisical islands, there are plenty of places to explore well away from the coastline including the great lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice and its buzzing capital: Zagreb. The latter is particularly attractive during December when its award-winning Winter Wonderland takes over the entire city centre. Dubrovnik, although overrun with sightseers, remains an unavoidable attraction although ensure liquidity of your assets before arrival, especially if intending on purchasing a ticket to walk along its famous, and tremendously expensive, city walls. Still worth it, though.
