Country 43/196: Benin. The home of voodoo and one of the largest floating cities in the world, Benin (or Benan as the locals pronounce it) has undergone a radical transformation since the collapse of communism in the early 90’s. Signs of that past can still be seen, no least through an enormous red star in the country’s largest city: Cotonou. However, Benin has long since embraced outside investment and the tourism industry is growing rapidly, particularly to its National Parks in the far north. Be sure to have a quick glance at the safety situation first.
