Country 87/196: Belarus. Not an easy decision to visit at the time of writing, but as I’ve learned, a country’s government should never be the sole measure of its worth. Determined not to contribute financially, I chose to take a day trip to Minsk where Soviet-era symbols and architecture are more visible than anywhere else on earth. Vast plazas like Independence Square, dominated by the imposing statue of Lenin, and monumental structures like the Minsk Gates stand as silent witnesses to a bygone era. Ensure thorough preparation before reaching the border, as phones may be searched and ancient comments scrutinised. Good luck!
