Country 93/196: Barbados. The Caribbean’s easternmost island is a compact nation shaped by British colonial heritage, which is evident in Bridgetown’s UNESCO-listed Parliament Buildings and historic cricket grounds such as the Kensington Oval. The capital also offers historic architecture and bustling markets, alongside nearby beaches extremely popular for snorkelling and shipwreck diving—get there early! Historically significant for its sugar plantations and rum production, the island retains a strong connection to these traditions, and a tour of Mount Gay Rum is essential, as is a visit to the childhood house of Barbados’ biggest icon: Rihanna. You can also drive past her current residence, too, which is quite a bit larger.
