Country 19/196: Armenia. The first country in the world to declare Christianity as its state religion, Armenia is dotted with countless historic churches and monasteries, oft built in the most scenic of locations. To access them usually requires negotiating some extremely heavily land-mined countryside (they’ve never been on good terms with their Azeri neighbours) – although this did nothing to stop us from exploring the endless hills and stunning scenery. Whilst the capital Yerevan is certainly one of the more aesthetically pleasing ex-Soviet state capitals (it doesn’t take much).
