Country 31/196: Guatemala. Watching a volcano erupt from atop the volcano next door is an experience I will never forget, and for that alone I will always have fond memories of Guat. However, there is far more to the country than just fire and ash. The Mayan ruins of Tikal are the very best in the region (including Chichén Itzá), whilst countless other sites are only just being unearthed in the untamed jungles to the north. Be sure to have a dip in the aquamarine pools at Semuc Champey on your way through this compelling country.
